Velheim RSPS - 8 Year Anniversary!

Eight years.

That alone feels a little unreal to type out.

What started as a passion project, and a stubborn refusal to let something die has somehow turned into eight full years of existence.

In a world where projects come and go faster than you can finish a cup of coffee, reaching this point feels nothing short of amazing.
And just to get it out of the way early - this would not happen without you, the player!
Every login, every vote, every bug report, every suggestion (yes, even the questionable ones), and every moment spent just being there has kept Velheim alive far longer than logic would normally allow.

For that, I’m genuinely grateful!

-------------------

If the past eight years have taught me anything, it’s that longevity isn’t about perfection - it’s about persistence.
There were moments of momentum where everything just clicked. Ideas flowed, motivation was high, and progress felt unstoppable. And then there were the opposite moments - burnout, frustration, self-doubt, and that familiar "why am I even doing this?" internal dialogue that sneaks in when my hard efforts were fruitless.
Velheim has seen it all.
Ups, downs, pauses, comebacks, quiet periods, noisy periods - the whole emotional rollercoaster.

.. and yet, somehow, it’s still here. Still breathing!
That alone says more than any feature list ever could.

-------------------

Over time, Velheim stopped being "just a server" for me, it became my world, my little baby, my forever-project I would wake up to each day.
It became a place people returned to.
A place people recognized.
A place tied to memories, routines, late nights, and familiar faces.

Even for those who no longer play actively, Velheim exists as a chapter in their lives - and the fact that so many people still check in, lurk, or keep an eye on things means more to me than I probably ever properly expressed.

Projects don’t last eight years on code alone.
They last because people care.

-------------------

I won’t pretend it’s been smooth sailing. Trying to balance vision, expectations, real life, and motivation is challenging. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve misjudged things. I’ve taken on too much at times, and stepped back when I probably shouldn’t have.
But every year added something - experience, perspective, and a better understanding of what actually matters in the long run.

Spoiler: it’s not doing everything fast — it’s doing it right.

-------------------

Eight years isn’t a finish line.
It’s a checkpoint.

Velheim is still something I care deeply about, still something I want to nurture, refine, and improve - at a pace that makes sense to me, and keeps the passion intact.
If you’re still here reading this, whether you’re actively playing or just quietly watching from the sidelines, thank you. Truly. Your presence, in any form, is part of why this milestone exists at all!

Here’s to everything that’s already happened -
and to whatever comes next.

I’ll stop yapping now before I get too sentimental.
As always - thank you for being part of the journey.

With appreciation,
Sandstorm
